Standards for Club Policy

The standards of conduct, responsibility, governance and integrity expected of Sapphire Gymnastics Club as a registered gymnastics club.

Club Responsibilities

Registered clubs are responsible for the standards of conduct and behaviour of those associated with their clubs as officials, staff, members, volunteers or otherwise.

Sapphire Gymnastics Club is responsible for putting appropriate measures in place to manage the conduct of those associated with the club.

The club must support those who are subject to the British Gymnastics Standards of Conduct for Coaches, Instructors and Officials to comply with those standards and any other relevant British Gymnastics Rules, Policies and Codes.

Sapphire Gymnastics Club is responsible for ensuring that staff, members and volunteers receive guidance and appropriate training to understand their responsibilities under these policies and to ensure that activities are carried out in accordance with British Gymnastics policies and associated guidance.

Failure to comply with the relevant Constitution, Regulations and Standards of Conduct may lead to disciplinary or other action under the British Gymnastics Complaints & Disciplinary Policy and Procedures.

British Gymnastics Policies

Registered clubs required to comply with these Standards of Conduct are also required to comply with policies issued by British Gymnastics, including but not limited to:

  • Safeguarding Policy.
  • Health, Safety and Welfare Policy and supporting documents.
  • Membership Rules.
  • Criminal Record Checks Policy and Guidelines.
  • Anti-Doping Policy.
  • Guidelines on the use of Social Media.

Other Obligations

Registered clubs are required to comply with all relevant legal obligations and prohibitions applicable to their activities as a business, an employer and a provider of gymnastics activity.

Clubs are also responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable rules relating to the practice and governance of gymnastics.

These may include rules and requirements established by organisations such as:

  • The International Olympic Committee (IOC).
  • Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG).
  • The British Olympic Association (BOA).
  • The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
  • European Gymnastics.

Standards for Registered Clubs

As a registered club, Sapphire Gymnastics Club shall:

  1. Comply with the conditions of its registration with British Gymnastics as listed in the Membership Rules.
  2. Ensure, through its constitution or otherwise, that those associated with the club are members of or registered with British Gymnastics where required.
  3. Not, without the prior written consent of the Board of British Gymnastics, structure or restructure its activities and operations in a way that has the object or effect of dividing the club into two or more parts or organisations such that the remaining parts or organisations are not, or cease to be, a British Gymnastics Registered Club.
  4. Report any serious breaches of British Gymnastics policies or standards and not take or threaten action to discourage or penalise others from reporting concerns.
  5. Not condone, or allow to go unchallenged, breaches of British Gymnastics Standards of Conduct, Codes, Rules or Policies.
  6. Display high standards in relation to the running of the club and ensure that the club maintains a favourable image.
  7. Promote inclusion and be proactive in ensuring fair access to everyone in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010.
  8. Display high standards of ethics and integrity in relation to club operations and ensure the club is not operated in a way that could damage the reputation or credibility of British Gymnastics, the British Gymnastics brand or the sport of gymnastics.
  9. Ensure compliance with relevant data protection legislation and maintain confidentiality where appropriate in relation to club operations.
  10. Take such steps as are within the club's power to ensure that Sapphire Gymnastics Club complies with its obligations under these Standards of Conduct.
